Description
I composed Two Dickinson Songs as gifts for my father, mother-in-law, and the great pianist Warren Jones. This short cycle can be sung with either song sung first. The perkiness of Good Morning Midnight, with its conversational vocal line over a bouncy accompaniment, emphasizes the humor in the poem. The subdued accompaniment for Wider Than The Sky provides a quiet backdrop to Emily Dickinson’s amazing verse. Wider Than The Sky was sung at The Supreme Court by soprano Patrice Michaels for Justice Ruth Ginsburg’s 80th birthday party, and later included on Patrice’s Notorious RBG in Song CD. I also created a chamber music version of the song for the live touring version of Notorious RBG in Song.
