The Music of Lori Laitman, now available as PDFs
Description I composed "The Apple Orchard" in 2004, to a poem by Dana Gioia. I was drawn to the poem's dramatic arc as well as the beautiful image of "Spring's ephemeral cathedral." Unlike most of my songs, this one begins and ends in the same key and uses the same piano figuration throughout. Dana Gioia said " With 'The Apple Orchard' something extraordinary happened. Lori Laitman's setting is so perfect that it seems to have emerged naturally from the words as is the music had always been hidden in the lines. Every nuance of her setting seems absolutely inevitable...And the song is so suave, so beautiful — somehow both understated and dramatic." The sound clip is from my "Becoming a Redwood" CD, and I am accompanying tenor Robert McPherson.
