Description
My Holocaust oratorio, Vedem, was commissioned by Music of Remembrance and premiere in 2010. The work is based on the true story of the secret magazine Vedem, published by a group of teenage boys imprisoned in the Terezin concentration camp. Poet David Mason, with whom I had collaborated on my opera The Scarlet Letter, created the oratorio's libretto, incorporating six of the original Vedem poems.
For these choral excerpts, I chose three movements. The songs can be sung by boychoir (as in the full version) or by children's choir. The original orchestration (which can be heard on the aural excerpt) has been adapted for piano accompaniment.
Of Vedem, Fanfare Magazine wrote: "[This CD] is a most touching experience, and one that further confirms Laitman's status as one of the most talented and intriguing of living composers."
